NEW ZEALAND'S ONLY SOCIETY DEDICATED TO BOWHUNTERS AND RUN BY BOWHUNTERS
The New Zealand Bowhunters Society Inc. is a hunting organisation focused solely on the pursuit of game with the bow and arrow. Bowhunting is extremely challenging and rewarding, it is like no other sport and it is this call that draws and binds us all.
For many it has been a life long source of challenge and enjoyment, for others new to the sport it opens up a whole new avenue to hunting previously not thought of.
The NZBS is not a bricks and mortar type of organization, i.e. we don’t have clubrooms or a national office. The NZBS is run by an executive committee that is voted into office by the membership at it’s Annual General Meeting which is held at our Annual Tournament.
The members of this committee are usually resident in the North Island and travel to monthly meeting to organize the Society’s activities. In addition to this we have Area Vice Presidents which act as a contact point for existing members and prospective members.
In some areas there may be a local bowhunting club operating, these clubs form where a group of bowhunters usually NZBS members join together to organize hunts and set up target course’s.
The NZBS holds many annual events including the World Koi Carp Classic, Kaipara Saltwater Classic
and the Annual Tournament which has been running for 62 years! There are also a number of hunting trips organised each year including the Urewera Chopper Trip and the Kaweka Fly-In Hunt.
The NZBS holds a closed record book also, which boasts an outstanding display of all the typical big game species in New Zealand aswell as Wild Sheep, Feral Goats and a number of various fish species.
